Privacy Notice

Last updated: 6 September 2026

Class Scrambler is designed with privacy as a core principle. Student roster information is processed in your browser rather than stored by Class Scrambler. We may collect limited, non-roster usage analytics to understand how the service is used and improve it.

This Privacy Notice explains what information Class Scrambler processes and what happens to it.

1. Who we are

Class Scrambler is provided by Noko Labs (“we”, “us” or “our”).

For privacy-related questions, you can contact us at:

Noko Labs

Namibia

2. Student roster information

When you use Class Scrambler, you may enter or upload information such as:

This information is processed locally in your web browser.

Class Scrambler is designed so that student roster information, class configurations, allocation constraints and resulting allocations are not transmitted to or stored on our servers.

We therefore do not receive a copy of your student roster simply because you use the class-allocation tool.

3. Temporary processing and exports

Class Scrambler does not provide user accounts or saved projects.

Roster and allocation information is held temporarily in the browser while you use the tool. The application does not use cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage or IndexedDB to persist roster, class or allocation information.

If you refresh the page, navigate away or close the session, this working information is lost.

If you export your allocation to Excel, the exported file is saved under your control. Your school or organisation is responsible for protecting, retaining and sharing that exported file appropriately.

4. Website infrastructure and technical information

Although student roster information remains in your browser, operating a website necessarily involves some technical communication between your device and the infrastructure used to deliver Class Scrambler.

Our hosting and security providers may therefore process technical information associated with requests to the website, such as an IP address, browser or device information, request information and security-related information.

This technical information is separate from the student roster and class-allocation information processed locally in your browser.

Class Scrambler is hosted using Cloudflare Pages, and Cloudflare provides infrastructure and security services for the website. The Class Scrambler specification also uses Cloudflare Turnstile for human verification of the suggestion form.

5. Suggestions and bug reports

Class Scrambler includes an optional suggestion and bug-report form.

If you choose to use it, you may provide:

Unlike roster information, information submitted through this form leaves your browser because it must be transmitted in order to deliver your message.

The suggestion form uses Cloudflare Turnstile for human verification and the Class Scrambler server function sends accepted messages using an email delivery provider. The current deployment design specifies Resend for email delivery.

Please do not include student names, student records or other confidential school information in a suggestion or bug report.

Class Scrambler does not maintain its own database of submitted suggestions. The application specification provides that suggestion content is transmitted for delivery as an email rather than retained by the site itself.

6. Usage analytics

Class Scrambler may collect limited usage and technical analytics to help us understand how the service is used and improve its performance.

This may include information such as:

We do not collect student roster contents, student names, class names, allocation results, uploaded spreadsheet contents or other information entered into the class-allocation workflow for analytics purposes.

The student-allocation process continues to take place locally in your browser.

7. How we use information

Where information is actually received by us, we may use it to:

We do not use student roster or allocation information for these purposes because the Class Scrambler allocation workflow is designed not to transmit that information to us.

8. Third-party service providers

Class Scrambler uses limited third-party infrastructure to provide and protect the service.

These may include:

Cloudflare — website hosting, network infrastructure, security and Turnstile human verification.

Resend — delivery of messages submitted through the suggestion form.

These providers may process technical or message information as necessary to provide their respective services.

They do not need access to your student roster for Class Scrambler's core allocation functionality.

9. Your responsibilities

Schools and teachers may have legal, professional and organisational responsibilities concerning student information.

Before uploading a roster to Class Scrambler, you should ensure that you are authorised to use that information for class-allocation purposes.

You should only use information reasonably necessary for the allocation and should avoid including unnecessary sensitive or confidential information.

After exporting an allocation, you are responsible for protecting the resulting file in accordance with your school's policies and applicable requirements.

10. Security

Class Scrambler is designed to minimise the amount of information transmitted to us.

Website traffic is encrypted in transit, with the technical specification requiring TLS 1.2 or higher. Uploaded spreadsheets are read in the browser, and spreadsheet data is not intended to be sent to a backend service.

No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but keeping student roster processing within the user's browser substantially reduces the information that Class Scrambler itself needs to receive or retain.

11. Children’s information

Class Scrambler may be used by teachers and schools to process student names, including information relating to children.

Class Scrambler is not intended for collecting student information directly from children, and we do not create profiles or accounts for students.

Student roster information entered by an authorised user is processed locally in that user's browser and is not intended to be collected or retained by us.

12. Changes to this notice

We may update this Privacy Notice if Class Scrambler's functionality, service providers or privacy practices change.

The date at the top of this notice will show when it was last updated.
